Frequently Asked Questions for Fitness CEU Courses & Continuing Education Credits

Our online courses are designed to be an easy and convenient option to meet the recertification requirements for your NASM-CPS certification. Our online courses have been reviewed and approved by the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA).  If you are a member of one or both of these organizations that are dedicated to certifying and educating professional trainers, fitness trainers, group fitness instructors, and group exercise instructors, then you will need to complete continuing education units to maintain your certification. Our online courses have been reviewed and approved to count towards your CEU requirements.

Fitness CEU Courses & General Information

1. What are CEUs?
Continuing Education Units, or CEUs, are programs designed to develop and enhance knowledge and skills in a professional field beyond the level required for entry-level practice.

2. Are you approved by NASM or AFAA?
Yes. Our courses are approved by both NASM and AFAA.

3. How long are the courses?
Approximately 1 hour.

4. Is there a test at the end of the course?
Yes.

5. What happens if I don’t pass the test?
You can keep retaking the test for free until you pass!

6. Can I take the course online?
Yes, all of our courses are available online only. You can take it from a desktop, laptop, and mobile devices, such as tablets and smartphones.

7. Do I have to take the course all at once?
Nope! You can start and stop the course at any time. When you’re ready, it’ll pick up right where you left off.

8. Do I need to pay for a membership?
Absolutely not! Unlike other fitness course providers, we don’t make you pay for a recurring membership. You only pay for the courses that you need to take. You don’t have to worry about auto-payments or anything!

9. What do I do after I take my course?
Once you pass the course, you will get a certificate of completion. You will need to submit it to NASM or AFAA to count towards your continuing education credits.

10. My name is spelled wrong on my certificate/something is wrong with my certificate.

NASM Recertification Requirements & General Information

1. How often do I need to recertify my NASM-CPT certification?
Your NASM-CPT certification must be recertified every 2 years.

2. How many CEUs do I need to recertify my NASM-CPT certification?
You must complete 2.0 CEUs (20 hours) during every 2-year certification period. Keep in mind that 0.1 CEUs from that is required to be a CPR/AED certification.

3. Do I still need to take CEUs if I am a part of NASM’s Recertify for Life program?
Yes. Even if you are a part of the NASM Recertify for Life program, NASM-CPTs are still required to submit the following every 2 years:

  • Their recertification application
  • Proof that they have completed 2.0 CEUs
  • A copy of a current CPR/AED card

4. What is NASM Recertify for Life?
Certified Personal Trainers can avoid bi-annual renewal fees by paying a single one-time fee of $329. However, they still have to meet all of the same requirements for renewal.

5. Can I take ALL of my CEUs online?
Almost, but not quite! You are required to complete a CPR/AED course every 2 years. NASM will only accept a CPR/AED course if a hands-on assessment was completed. Online courses will not be accepted unless a hands-on component is included.

6. How much does 0.1 CEU equal in education hours?
NASM-approved courses that are 0.1 CEU take approximately 1 hour to complete.

7. Do I have to take CEU courses if I have participated in workshops, conferences and other NASM-approved activities?
In most cases, you will need to complete at least a few courses to finish meeting your requirements. However, it depends on what activities that you’ve done over the 2-year time frame.

AFAA Recertification Requirements & General Information

1. How often do I need to recertify my AFAA-PGE/PFT/CGFI certification?
AFAA certifications must be recertified every 2 years.

2. Which certifications do I need to recertify with AFAA?

  • PGE – Primary Group Exercise
  • PFT – Personal Fitness Trainer
  • CGFI – Certified Group Fitness Instructor

3. How many CEUs do I need to recertify my certification with AFAA?
You must complete 15 CEUs (15 hours) during every 2-year certification period. Keep in mind that 2 CEUs from that is required to be a CPR/AED certification (1 CEU = 1 hour).

4. Do I still need to take CEUs if I am a part of AFAA’s Recertify for Life program?
Yes. Even if you are a part of the AFAA Recertify for Life program, you are still required to submit the following every 2 years:

  • Recertification application
  • Proof that they have completed 15 CEUs
  • A copy of a current CPR/AED card

8. There are a lot of ways to get credit hours. Am I required to take any specific AFAA/NASM courses through their website?
Yes. AFAA requires that as part of your continuing education units, you have two contact hours (2 CEUs) that come from either an AFAA or NASM course.
